Event Details

Traditional (light rail) tram systems are an attractive low emission option for sustainable transport. In the UK, trams are highly successful in attracting people out of their cars and onto public transport, saving 22 million car journeys annually.

However, the high cost of such systems make it almost impossible to generate a positive business case in all but the largest UK cities. The Very Light Rail (VLR) scheme aims to reduce the cost of light rail through delivery of lightweight, battery electric vehicles combined with a novel track form, the first system of its kind in the world.

WMG would like to invite industry leaders and research representatives to an exciting showcase of Very Light Rail technology and projects in the UK.

The Transport Knowledge Hub is a fantastic resource and I’m really excited about the opportunity to explore how we can maximise its use among transport stakeholders. In the South East Midlands, investing in local transport infrastructure has unlocked significant economic growth. The Hub offers a formal framework for sharing expertise with decision makers around the UK, as well as learning from the experience of others. This will enable more investment to be directed towards  local and sustainable forms of transport.
