City of London to introduce emissions-based parking charges

View original

The City of London Corporation has announced that on-street parking charges based on a vehicle’s emission levels are to be introduced. From 20 August, vehicles with higher pollution levels will pay a higher fare while low/zero emission capable vehicles will pay less. Chris Hayward, Planning and Transportation Committee chairman at the City of London Corporation, comments: “We have seen other areas of London penalise worst offenders such as diesel cars. We are taking this one step further by not only applying punitive measures for these worst offenders but by supporting and encouraging motorists to consider other modes of transport and switch to cleaner vehicles in the future.”

With LEPs now responsible for significant amounts of local transport funding decisions, the Transport Knowledge Hub is a timely new tool for local decision makers. At the LEP Network, we know the huge value of giving LEPs a forum to share best practice and engage with other stakeholders, so we are delighted to be involved with a transport-specific project which supports spending decisions that make a genuine difference.
