TransportXtra has reported that the Department for Transport is sourcing data sets of transport movements from local authorities across the country. The data will be used to support the Government’s policies to the COVID-19 outbreak. Collection of the data is being coordinated by ITS (UK). The DfT is keen to source data sets in the following areas, especially for local roads: traffic flow (i.e. count, not speed); traffic movement (e.g. trip length and overall distance); parking; and cycle and pedestrian movements. Local authorities are being asked to share data about any of these with the DfT as soon as possible. The data needs to be already readily available and updated daily.
