Government awards East Midlands Railway Franchise

Secretary of State for Transport, Chris Grayling announced that the next East Midlands Railway franchise has been awarded to Abellio East Midlands. The franchise is due to start on 18 August 2019 and will run for 8 years, with a possible extension of a further 2 years at the government’s discretion. Abellio will increase peak services into Nottingham, London and Lincoln, as well as investing £17 million to improve station facilities. Operator Stagecoach were disqualified by the Department for Transport as their bid was non-compliant with pension rules.
