Liverpool to be first city outside London to have entirely contactless buses

View original

Liverpool will reportedly be the first city region outside London to offer contactless payments on all bus services by August this year. This news follows the work of Liverpool City Region Combined Authority in supporting bus operators such as StageCoach and Arriva go contactless as part of a wider strategy to encourage smart ticketing and more flexible payment options across the region. The combined authority has also facilitated the introduction of contactless technology in the Mersey Tunnels and all staffed stations across its rail network.

The Transport Knowledge Hub comes at a vital time for our transport networks. As our population continues to grow and our roads become more congested, public transport has an increasingly important role to play in keeping our country moving. Investment in local transport infrastructure, such as rail networks and bus services, can have a huge impact on development and economic growth in local areas, so I’m delighted that the Hub will provide the guidance and expertise local decision makers need to make effective investments.
