Stagecoach and other North-Eastern bus operators criticised proposals to create a London-style bus system in the region, citing the proposals will lead to increased taxes and are a “huge distraction” from “more pressing” public transport issues. This follows the announcement by North of Tyne Mayor, Jamie Driscoll, and Newcastle City Council leader Nick Forbes which called for the installation of a London style bus system which includes the council controlling routes, pricing and reducing the powers of private bus providers.

The Transport Knowledge Hub is a fantastic resource and I’m really excited about the opportunity to explore how we can maximise its use among transport stakeholders. In the South East Midlands, investing in local transport infrastructure has unlocked significant economic growth. The Hub offers a formal framework for sharing expertise with decision makers around the UK, as well as learning from the experience of others. This will enable more investment to be directed towards  local and sustainable forms of transport.
