Chief Executive of Transport for Wales, James Price, has stated that Network Rail’s south-east Wales Metro project is not only an important transport scheme but essential to improving the economy of the Valleys. The new metro system will see 95% of journeys on £1billion worth of new rolling stock and a huge increase in passenger capacity and frequency of services. Wi-fi will be available on all trains and free travel for children will be increased and half-price fares extended for those under 18.

With LEPs now responsible for significant amounts of local transport funding decisions, the Transport Knowledge Hub is a timely new tool for local decision makers. At the LEP Network, we know the huge value of giving LEPs a forum to share best practice and engage with other stakeholders, so we are delighted to be involved with a transport-specific project which supports spending decisions that make a genuine difference.
