Theresa May announces end to UK contribution to climate change by 2050

The Prime Minister, Theresa May has announced that the UK will adopt a target of a net contribution to climate change by 2050. The change will be implemented through a statutory instrument that will amend the climate change act 2008. This will mean that the UK is to be the first G7 Country to legislate for net zero emissions. She also said that reducing pollution would also benefit public health and cut NHS costs. Prior to this the UK’s 2050 target was to reduce emissions by 80%. She said “as the first country to legislate for long-term climate targets, we can be truly proud of our record in tackling climate change. We have made huge progress in growing our economy and the jobs market while slashing emissions. Now is the time to go further and faster to safeguard the environment for our children.”

The Transport Knowledge Hub is a fantastic resource and I’m really excited about the opportunity to explore how we can maximise its use among transport stakeholders. In the South East Midlands, investing in local transport infrastructure has unlocked significant economic growth. The Hub offers a formal framework for sharing expertise with decision makers around the UK, as well as learning from the experience of others. This will enable more investment to be directed towards  local and sustainable forms of transport.
